In the South before the Civil War, a young slave woman keenly observed her master’s dealings, driven by a thirst for knowledge despite being unable to read or write. She silently learned about finance and the oppression of her people while working on various plantations.
After her master fell ill, chaos ensued, presenting her with an opportunity. Armed with her knowledge and savings, she bought the plantation that had once enslaved her. She transformed it by treating others with kindness and fairness, providing education, fair wages, and the promise of freedom.
Her rise shocked the white community, but for the enslaved, she became a symbol of hope and resilience.
